An act of animating the scenographic exhibition walls as resonant architectures, transforming the space into an expanded sonic field. Engaging in a practice of lowercase music, where almost imperceptible sounds are amplified to extreme levels, the piece weaves vibration into sculptural sonic textures; a shared improvisational language unfolds through the layering of field recordings, vocalisations, intervened instruments, and amplified objects.

In Harbinger (Gust), discarded wind recordings are converted into tremors that animate copper water pipes as tubular bells. In Harbinger (Spectre), walls tremble with low frequencies that cause plumb bobs suspended from piano and harp strings to oscillate subtly. Used in construction to ensure the straightness of architectural elements, movement frustrates their purpose; measuring devices when still, and divinatory pendulums when in motion. Un agujero en mi jardín proposes an ephemeral architecture woven by mycelium, the root-like structure of fungi that sustains life beneath our feet as a silent intelligence. This threshold of living skin unfolds as a landscape in transformation, where sound emerges as subterranean vibration with geophonic recordings from the Amsterdamse Bos forest resonate through the material, activating the structure as an organic loudspeaker. Amidst filtered light and evolving textures, the space envelops us in an expansive fragility, evoking the hidden exchanges that sustain the ecosystems we inhabit, and that inhabit us.

Bajo, Relieve (Low, Relief) is a series of sound installations conceived as non-visual interventions within exhibition spaces, adapting to the form of its host architecture. The pieces use audible and inaudible recordings of seismic activity, captured in the aftermath of the 2021 La Palma volcanic events, to induce physical movement onto architectural elements. These works result from a residency in 2022 in La Palma, Spain, supported by TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes.

iletariak animates the remains of the Irangoiti shrine, once the spiritual centre of the Valley of La Bizkaia, drawing on the Basque tradition of mourners who offered elegies for the deceased, rather than mere laments as tributes. The geography and acoustic archaeology of the site merge by amplifying almost imperceptible sounds to extreme levels, combining different techniques of recording the ruin’s quiet vibrations with the sonic archive from the last dwellers of the now uninhabited valley. As a bridge between past lineages of forceful rural displacement and a present need for shared expressions of sorrow, the composition summons a space of communal reflection to serve as a transition between loss and remembrance, in a ‘breath’ taken together.

            Nota de Gracia (Grace Note) is a live psychoacoustic exploration through the opening and spatialisation of a personal sound archive. The piece overlays two simultaneous signals, one stereophonic and the other binaural, by layering field recordings and found sound objects. Such interaction between two nearly identical compositions generates a masking effect, a phenomenon by which certain sounds alter the perception of others. Paying attention to the differences between both reveals an interstice from which to focus on slight couplings, dissonances, and asynchronies that blur the outline of what we lose versus what we perceive.

Antecâmara emerged from a fieldwork residency on the fringes of the Gerês Natural Reserve, where the artist explored the ecological and political intertwinings of the eucalyptus tree along ‘A Raia'— the frontier between Portugal and Galicia. Under the Salazarist and Francoist regimes, eucalyptus forestry served as an ideological instrument for geoengineering and profitable landscape exploitation. Today, they disrupt ecosystems, acidify soils, replace native flora, and heighten forest fire risk, after which they rapidly resprout, simultaneously creating the conditions for their life and death.


                 
            
                
            
            

The installation deploys a composition based on field recordings from burned areas after forest fires into chainsaw components, surfacing overtones through their vibration and resonance. Intersecting acoustic geography and instrument crafting, the piece alludes to the tools of action used by the Diseucalyptising Brigades, a cross-border civil movement of environmental resistance reclaiming land from the invasive species, highlighting the ongoing wildfire epidemic as an echoing legacy of the Iberian dictatorships.

        High, Relief (Alto, Relieve) is an audio-visual essay recorded and filmed in Las Manchas cemetery, in the aftermath of the 2021 Cumbre Vieja eruption in La Palma, the most northwesterly of the Canary Islands. As the volcano calms down, tremors produced by seismic activity are occasionally difficult to differentiate from those of anthropogenic origin. The work approaches residual vibrations in human and mineral debris as interferences between the factual and the conjectural.
        Exhibited at Memory and Matter, NEVERNEVERLAND, Amsterdam, NL
This work is the result of a residency in 2022 in La Palma, Spain, supported by TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes.
